Music for children can be serious…

For over 18 years I have been teaching vocals, synthesizing emotions and knowledge received from the Odessa National A.V. Nezhdanova Academy of Music. When training children, I combine my own vision and experience of the classical school of vocal development.

The idea to create my own methodological design and a new repertoire was born after meeting my vocals student – Liliana. She was intensively training to play domra, but she really wanted to learn to sing. Her vocal background was average, but the girl was very musical and academic, and she wanted to sing not songs, but beautiful, melodic, serious compositions. Thus began my journey into the world of creating new compositions using convenient intervals in the melody, which would give a sense of serious music in its performance by children.

I did not know whether it would be in demand in training children by other teachers. This was due to the fact that it was at that very time that Ukraine’s interest in pop music greatly increased. Fighting the commercial current of vocals is difficult. However, I know for sure that there are people who are not indifferent towards academic singing and education in general, correct vocal technique, and aspiration to serious music.

Faith in that I am not alone, and that I have likeminded supporters, has inspired me to create the methodological design and a new repertoire for voice training and concert performance titled “The issues of forming a repertoire in solo academic singing classes. Romances and vocalizes for children and youths”.

It was a great joy for this methodological design and the collection to be recognized by my fellow Odessa colleagues when I addressed them at the Regional Pedagogical Conference. Then, it was recognized in other cities during my presentation at the all-Ukrainian scientific-methodical seminar regarding the issues of elementary music education. Following that, it became in demand among colleagues from different countries.

The collection was published and implemented into the training repertoire of our nation’s schools of aesthetic education by the Ministry of Culture. This served as a confirmation that voice training for children and the pursuit of academic approach in education is truly an important aspect in the education and formation of vocalists.

My developed methodology, along with a special repertoire, has been tested on thousands of students and pupils aged 5 to 45. Now has come the time to share my experience with the people who want to learn to sing or improve their existing skills, as well as young teachers who seek practical advice for working with children and youths.

You can download the collection free of charge in the “Notes” section in order to get acquainted with the methodological design and use the compositions in your own repertoire. Enjoy.

In continuation of this methodological design and repertoire, I have created a collection “United Through Music”. If you wish to receive a unique repertoire developed specifically for you, please feel free to contact me via email:
